On 21 November 2012, feast of the Queenship of Mary, in Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Cathedral, Imus, Cavite, Philippines, I made my Perpetual Profession before the Lord and His people.  The Eucharistic celebration was presided by Bishop Manuel Sobrevinas, bishop Emeritus of Imus Cavite, and 14 concelebrants, priests known to the Sisters, including our brother priests from the Society of St Paul. It was a great joy for me also to be surrounded by my family, many Pastorelle Sisters, friends and members of the Pauline Family.

In his homily, Bishop Sobrevinas, emphasized the three evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience as the total gift of self to the Lord, the response to the invitation of Jesus to “Come and follow me!” To follow Christ is to seek in Him a Model and an example of holiness and righteousness:  MAKING HIS CHOICE OF LIFE MY OWN. In my year of preparation for my Perpetual Profession in Australia, I have treasured the beauty of my personal journey with the Sisters in simplicity and in love both in the community and in the apostolate.

I have had the opportunity of regularly sharing the ministry of pastoral care alongside Sr Estelita in the parish of St Joseph the Worker, North Reservoir; with Sr Doreen in St Matthew’s parish, Fawkner, and occasionally with Sr Mia in St Paul’s parish, Coburg. In the parish of St Damian, Bundoora, where I live, I have been involved with the Legion of Mary, visiting the sick and helping with Religious Instruction of children in government schools. Doing a Diploma Course for Catechists has been very helpful in this regard. I have also had the opportunity of leading the monthly lectio divina for young people in Bundoora, and assisting Sr Nelia in her ministry with youth in the parish.I have met so many wonderful committed people and truly felt God’s gentleness and welcome acceptance of me in their midst. I have been edified by my numerous experiences and encouraged to share from my heart the love and compassion of the Good Shepherd. In my thanksgiving message, I heartily expressed my gratitude to God who has been faithful to me, to all the people, especially the Pastorelle Sisters who are journeying with me in every way and to my loving family for offering me to God in view of His mission.

I humbly and joyfully accept my assignment to return to Australia and with the Sisters continue to care for the people that the Lord entrusts to our care, in collaboration with the pastors and leaders of the local Church. I am confident that Jesus Good Shepherd and Mary Mother of the Good Shepherd in their abundant love will be my constant guides and inspiration.

Sr Ignacia Coching, sjbp
