Visit of Sr. Marta Finotelli, Superior General of the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd “Pastorelle” to the Korean Delegation on April 20 to 28, 2013
The visit of Sr. Marta to the sisters in South Korea, was short but full and well spent.
Day 1: Sr. Marta gave a recollection to the sisters who gathered together at the Formation House in Mubong ri. She gave reflections using the text from the Book of Revelation about the Community in Laudecia and the Community of Smyrna. Through these communities, the Pastorelle of Korea were able to identify to their journey and God’s invitation to conversion to them. The sisters also saw the video of the new chapel in the new Generalate and each community received a copy of it. Rev. Fr. Ignacio Hwang, SSP served as the translator and the main celebrant during the mass at the end of the day.
Day 2: Sr. Marta met the council and discussed/shared with them important matters of concern. On the same day ( late afternoon) the group went to visit a village where a famous scholar and sage lived and was buried.
Day 3: Sr. Marta participated mass at the Myeong dong Cathedral and visited also the office of the Bio-ethics where Sr. Teresa Han is doing her ministry on a diocesan level.
Day 4: Sr. Marta met the “Friends of the Pastorelle” ( cooperators) during their regular meeting in Kirum dong. Rev. Fr. Angelo, SSP, the Provincial Superior of the SSP was the main celebrant during the mass. A simple lunch followed.
Day 5: Sr. Marta, took the opportunity to re-visit the house donated to the congregation about 4 years ago and the parents of Sr. Kim Jeong Hwa Teresa and the elderly mother of Sr. Kim Anna, who live nearby the place.
Day 6: In Korea during the month of May, the birthday of Buddha is celebrated and Sr. Marta had the chance to see some preparations going on, with the colorful lanterns hanging all around the temple area. To the last minute, she still managed to meet some vocations and had dinner with them.
The sisters are grateful for Sr. Marta’s presence in their midst despite her health concern and the news of an imminent “war” in the peninsula. Her confidence that everything will be successful, with the grace of God, turned out to be so. Her attitude of looking for each sister and calling each of them by name is taken as a sign similar to that of the Good Shepherd, who knows and who calls each sheep by name. KAMSA HAMNIDA.
