We accept each Sister in the community as a GIFT.
Peaceful, friendly and cordial living together makes common life a real comfort
in time of suffering, a source of encouragement in time of difficulty, a serene sharing in  times  of  joy...
(Rule of Life # 19.1)

Our Community was erected in October 2005. We occupy the first house in the compound of the Pastorelle Sisters at #20 Broadway Avenue, corner 5th Street, New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines. We are four perpetually professed Sisters here who feel blessed by the presence of each one in the community.

Through the grace of our Lord Jesus each one of us in our individual apostolic involvement, tries to live out our pastoral consecration, striving to balance our life of prayer, study, community and apostolate. Sr. Victoria G. Sanchez is the Community Animator and contact person of the website. Sr. Cristina N. Justo is the Provincial Treasurer. Sr. Cecilia F. Santiago and Sr. Vilana S. Laluan collaborate with the Scalabrinian Fathers in the pastoral ministry at the Apostleship of the Sea-Manila.

From the year 1986 onward, we, the Pastorelle Sisters in the Philippines, have been extending our wide pastoral care for the people of the sea: maritime students, seafarers and their families through the “Apostolatus Maris” or Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) by providing assistance to seafarers all over the world. We interact with government and non-government organizations, maritime agencies and maritime schools in a constant work of advocacy and protection on behalf of seafarers regardless of nationality, language, faith, culture and customs.

Since many of the Filipino seafarers are coming from far provinces of Visayas and Mindanao, while awaiting for their employment on board, the Apostleship of the Sea provides them with a decent yet affordable dwelling at the Stella Maris Centers. The Sisters journey with the seafarers spiritually, meet them regularly, catechize and facilitate their weekly Lectio Divina. They also do occasional counseling, organize Annual Recollection,  give Value Formation Seminars to seafarers and their families. Likewise, the Sisters coordinate with the Episcopal Commission on Migration and Itinerant People (ECMI), the Bishops, and Parish Priests of the different parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila and other parishes of Luzon area.

To prepare seafarers, especially the maritime students for their difficult life at sea, the Sisters together with the AOS Staff, coordinate with the Maritime Schools and other educational institutions in Luzon for the Value Formation Seminars and Programs to graduating seafarers. Other seminars offered to them are: Para-legal, Counseling and Orientation, Family-Related Issues, HIV-AIDS, Teachings of the Church on Migration and Seafarers’ issues.

The Sisters animate the religious activities and spiritual services on board such as Holy Mass and Blessing. They prepare some seafarers to become Special Ministers of the Eucharist and prayer leaders on board. They also assist the spiritual needs of other seamen-dormitories like Pagoda and Felix Huertas in Manila. They do weekly Hospital Visitation to sick or injured seamen and family members; likewise, conduct Ship Visitation to crew on board and distribute free reading materials for their spiritual upliftment.  These are but vital opportunities to listen to the seafarers’ needs and express friendship and concern.

Other special activities of the maritime pastoral ministry include legal referrals. In view of the annual celebration of the National Seafarers’ Day (NSD) held every last Sunday of September, the Apostleship of the Sea spearheads the big preparation for this great event.

Despite our loaded life in the ministry, we see to it that quality time is devoted to personal and community prayer, community sharing and study, household tasks and recreation where we draw spiritual nourishment for daily sustenance to keep us fit to face joyfully every new day and to look forward to bonding ourselves creatively with one another.

We invoke the Apostles Peter and Paul as pastors of the Church and our models in the apostolate
to help us live in Christ and of Christ becoming, freely and joyfully,
“all things to all persons” in pastoral charity.
