A woman who gives birth to a baby is considered fruitful and blessed. But more fruitful is a woman who gives birth to a twin. The Pastorelle Sisters who in the exercise of their spiritual motherhood have become the spiritual companions of the two growing baby churches borne from the Mary Mediatrix Cathedral of Digos City.
After few months’ exposure of 2 sisters and 2 Novices to the Diocese of Digos in the year 2010, a community of the Pastorelle Sisters was opened in May 2012 to cater to the pastoral needs of the faithful of these Pastoral Centers being prepared to become new parishes of the Diocese.
The first Pastoral Center is located at Matti, Digos City presently called Matti District Catholic Center under the care of the Marist Fathers. Sr. Josefina Labata, the Pastorelle Sister assigned in that Catholic Center continues to collaborate with the Marist priests since June 2012. She became mother and sister to all from human formation to spiritual formation to apostolic formation of the people in the office and in the Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingan (GKK), to the catechists, to the emerging lay leaders and those who are not yet involved and active in the church. She looks after the formation and development of leaders, the preparation of the liturgical celebrations, the catechetical mission in the schools and the preparation of the people for the reception of the Sacraments. In addition, she listens, counsels and accompanies the people in the journey of faith, struggles in life and victories after sufferings.
The second Pastoral Center is located at the Sinawilan, Digos City called Divine Mercy Apostolic Center. A priest who forms part of the pastoral team of the Mary Mediatrix Cathedral is in-charge of the Center and started to do the initial preparations to organize this into a Parish. Three sisters have been assigned here within the three years of its preparation. Compared to the first Pastoral Center, the Divine Mercy Apostolic Center has more need of organizing, formation, visitation and accompaniment. The common pastoral work such as formation of catechists and lay leaders, preparation of liturgies and reception of Sacraments, school and chapel catechesis, home visitation and strengthening of the devotion to the Divine Mercy have been the initial concerns of the Sisters assigned here. At present, Sr. Narcisa Penaredonda collaborates with the Pastoral Team of the Mary Mediatrix Cathedral, journeying with the people in the spirit of spiritual motherhood and sisterhood.
Three years is so short a time to define and describe the pastoral mission of the Pastorelle Sisters in the Diocese of Digos. Sr. Josie and Sr. Narci look forward to a more developed pastoral collaboration with the priests and lay leaders of the Pastoral Centers where they are assigned, to have more opportunities to build up the people into Christian communities that welcome and energize one another to be committed members of the GKK’s.
