May 15, 2015 was truly a day of great celebration for the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd “Pastorelle” in the Philippines. We glorify God for His tremendous graces and blessings which that day marked: our Golden Jubilee of Foundation in the Philippines and the Silver Jubilee of Sr. Argelia Baguio, Sr.Flora Salimbagat and Sr. Adoracion Manuel.

The day started with a solemn Eucharistic Adoration which concluded with the renewal of vows of our four Juniors, Srs. Florentina Bataclan, Marnie Cabiles, Evangeline Dolores and Junlyn Maraganas and the entrance to the Postulancy of Aspirants Sheila Estremos and Julie Ann Bojos.This was followed immediately with the Sisters’ visit and Prayer Services at the site where our pioneer Sisters were first welcomed and given shelter by the late Dra. Mabini Virata. All proceeded afterwards to the Bishop’s House where the first Kindergarten was established that grew to now known as the Jesus Good Shepherd School. The Sisters and visitors joined the Karakol, a customary dance of the Caviteneos as an expression of thanksgiving to God. This was followed by the Eucharistic Celebration presided by the local Ordinary of the Diocese of Imus, His Excellency Most Rev. Reynaldo G. Evangelista, D.D. at Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral.

God’s goodness was very much felt throughout this day including the opportunity to listen to Sr. Cecilia Son, the first Korean Sister who had her initial formation in the Philippines who shared with us some points on Ecumenism. We were all enriched by the learning she imparted to us and more so with how enthusiastic she was to share what she has imbibed throughout her years of studies.

We shall never forget the significant history we had especially the early beginnings of our foundation in the Philippines which was possible through the kind invitation of His Excellency Most Rev. Artemio Casas, who was then the Bishop of the Diocese of Imus. It was just but fitting to celebrate this 50 years of existence in this Diocese, and as a sign of gratitude a Plaque of Appreciation was presented to the incumbent Bishop, His Excellency, Most Rev. Reynaldo Evangelista, D.D.

We acknowledged the effort and sacrifices of Sr. Alberta Scalet, Sr. Cristina Justo and Sr. Lydia Paola Marave. Sr. Cristina Justo the remaining pioneer is continually passing faithfully to us the heritage she has received. The celebration was also graced by the presence of our Sisters from different countries: Sr. Mary La Bruna of Australia, Sr. Luz Olalia and Sr. Cecilia Son of Korea, and Sr. Emma Lusterio with Fr. Kenneth Hezel, SJ representing the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, Saipan, USA. We were indeed grateful for the presence of the members of the Pauline Family, the families of our Silver Jubilareans and guests from the different dioceses where we were and are still present.

The reading of the greetings and the official announcement of Sr. Marta Finotelli, our Superior General of the integration of Taiwan to the Province as Philippine-Australia-Saipan Province added to the joy and gratitude we felt that day.

It was a long day nonetheless it was all worth it for the whole day’s activities were truly an enormous labor and collaborative effort of each and everyone. To God be the glory!
