PHILIPPINE-AUSTRALIA-SAIPAN-TAIWAN PROVINCE
December 27, 2016 – January 2, 2017
We were grateful and our hearts filled with joy during the days of the First Phase of our Provincial Chapter. We were blessed with the different invited speakers/priests who delved on the theme on Pastoral Maternity.
On December 27, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., the First Phase of the 4th Provincial Chapter of the Philippine-Australia-Saipan-Taiwan Province started with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Joe Aripio, ssp, Provincial Superior of the Society of St. Paul, Philippines Macau Province. In his homily, he encouraged us to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us during these days of our Chapter. Before the final blessing, Sr. Arsenia Estrada, our Provincial Superior read the message of Sr. Marta Finotelli, after which she officially announced the opening of the Provincial Chapter. It was followed by the Opening Liturgy and the signing of names of the 65 capitulars.
The first two days of the Chapter were devoted for prayers, silence and reflection. As part of this preparation for the Chapter, we had two inputs given by Fr. Romerico Prieto, priest of the Diocese of Cubao and Sr. Evangeline Canag, fsp. Fr. Prieto captured the idea of the three themes of his talk, challenging us to be channels of mercy in the world of desolation having Mary as our model and mother. While Sr. Canag shared the words of Blessed James Alberione from his book, “Woman Allied to the Sacerdotal Zeal”, emphasizing the role of women in the Church thus, “Woman bears in herself an imprint of God’s power”. Inspired by these thoughts, Fr. Founder conceived in founding the woman Congregation who is considered the pastoral force of the Pauline Family, the Pastorelle Sisters.
Part of each day’s assembly is the celebration of the Eucharist presided by some of our collaborator priests. Group sharing on the journey of the Province was presented in the assembly which will be brought to the 9th General Chapter. Sr. Arsenia also presented and explained the directives in choosing the delegates for the 9th General Chapter indicated in the Rule of Life 18. After the Prayer of Discernment which preceded the election of the delegates, Sr. Marilyn Delalamon and Sr. Brenda Balingasa were elected, while Sr. Narcisa Peñaredonda and Sr. Mary La Bruna as substitutes.
Before the session ended, each sister was called for the second signing as a commitment for the Second phase of the Provincial Chapter. Sr. Arsie closed the session after the signing. The conclusion of the last session was followed by a meaningful liturgy where everyone was encouraged to put into words the experience, their hopes and graces to ask as they go back to their communities. Part of the prayer is to mention the names of all the Sisters in the Congregation and pray for their intentions. The greetings and prayers of the Pauline Family, priests, bishops and lay collaborators accompanied us in our Provincial Chapter. It was a long but meaningful journey of preparation having been felt the guidance and help of the Holy Spirit us and the active participation of each of the Sisters including the elderly and the sick ones.
On the last day each sister were enriched full of hope and dreams for the Province and the Congregation as a whole. We are more challenged to live our Pastoral Maternity amidst God’s people entrusted to our care in every place we are sent to with joy. We praise and thank the Triune God for the grace-filled days in communion with our sisters in the Province.
