52nd Founding Anniversary
Palico 2, City of Imus, Cavite-Philippines
THEME: “JGSS AT 52: STRAINING FORWARD WITH NEW SPIRIT AND NEW FERVOUR”
Jesus Good Shepherd School in Palico II, City of Imus, Cavite, Philippines gratefully celebrated her 52nd founding anniversary. The Pastorelle Sisters and the JGSS Community humbly marked the 52 years of service, giving quality Catholic education, open to the challenges of communication and technology and adhering to the school’s Mission and Vision.
FIRST DAY – SHEPHERDINES’ DAY
The celebration started on February 10, 2017 with the Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Reinier Dumaop of Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral Parish, and followed by the opening message of Sr. Ales Paz O. Pamplona, SJBP, the school principal. She said that the celebration of the school’s founding anniversary this year is very significant with the Year of the Parish as Communion of Communities and she also stressed the challenges that JGSS is called to respond for the next four years prior to the celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines. We are called to revisit the three dimensions of our Catholic Faith, namely, doctrine, worship, and moral, and how to fulfill them by translating into LEARNING, PRAYING, and SERVING the school and the society at large. We have to remember that with Christian evangelization came Catholic education. With Catholic education comes the joy of serving the Gospel and the challenges we meet today. We are challenged to remain faithful to our God-given vocation and identity as a Catholic School called to work for the transformation of persons and society.
She also recalled with gratitude and invited the school community to pay homage to the founding sisters of JGSS, benefactors and friends, namely, Mother Alberta Scalet, Sr. Innocenza Turra, Bishop Casas, Bishop Felix Perez, Fr. Luciano Paguiligan, Dra. Mabini Virata, and many more generous people sent by God to help the Pastorelle Sisters in their mission during the foundational years and who are now enjoying the bliss in heaven. She also invited everyone to thank the Lord for Sr. Cristina Justo, SJBP who closely worked with Mother Alberta when they came to the Philippines in 1965 and Sr. Mary Edward Parcero, SJBP, one of the teachers and later became school principal of JGSS. Today they continue to bless us with their prayerful and inspiring presence. This celebration is a time to reflect how faithful we have been to their vision and ideals.
SECOND DAY – ALUMNI DAY
The Second Day, February 11, 2017, began with a Prayer Service in front of Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd Chapel participated by the Pastorelle Sisters, faculty, staff, students and pupils. A short break was given to proceed with the next activity which was the Mass Demonstration from Junior Kinder to Grade 10.
Participants exhibited astonishing performances with the evolution of dances. The field demonstration was graced by the presence of Sr. Arsenia G. Estrada, SJBP, President of the JGSS Board of Trustees, and the Pastorelle Sisters in the administration which inspired the students more in their performance.
At 2:00 PM, the registration was set at the JGSS Covered Court for the Alumni Homecoming. Fr. Paul Marquez, SSP, from Batch ’77, officiated the Holy Eucharist in the JGSS Chapel. The JGSS Alumni Interim Committee and the Pastorelle Sisters have a unanimous decision of giving the 3rd Mother Alberta Scalet award to Mr. Patrick August Anthony S. Frias, Batch ’85. The following are his contributions not only to the school but to the society as well:
1. Outstanding contribution in the field of academe and music; and
2. Outstanding commitment and loyalty to the Jesus Good Shepherd School through the years
THIRD DAY – FAMILY DAY
The third day, February 12, 2017, started with the Holy Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Norman Melchor Peña, SSP. During the celebration, the Plaque of Recognition was presented to Miss Adorinda B. Orgasan and Miss Narcisa Q. Rodil for their exemplary dedication and commitment in collaborating with the Pastorelle Sisters in the Educational Pastoral Ministry for the past twenty five years (1991-2016). Also, Sr. Mary Edward Parcero, SJBP was given a tribute for her invaluable contribution in the school as one of the school principals. Their loyalty and unconditional services to Jesus Good Shepherd School of the City of Imus, Cavite serve as an inspiration and encouragement not only to the Shepherdines but also to the Church and Society at large.
Before the conclusion of the Holy Mass, Sr. Arsenia G. Estrada, SJBP gave a very meaningful and challenging message especially to the families of the Shepherdines. She stressed faithfulness to one’s faith which is reflected in the school motto, “True to my Faith,” and to always remember the primacy of God in our life. In everything, God is present especially during difficult times and He loves us unconditionally. God is above all and is in all.
In the afternoon, the families of the Shepherdines enjoyed the day during the Palarong Pampamilya with the aim of camaraderie and bonding among them. Aside from bonding, the families should also have a time for recreational activities. The Parents Council Organization (PCO) organized a socialization event which was Bingo Bonanza. The day was ended with the Solar Viewing and Stargazing Activity of the Religious Club members and the Pupil/Student Government Officers which was held at 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM to deepen our love for the Creator, our Almighty God and His creation, thus, implement more seriously concrete plans for the care for Mother Earth.
