The multicultural reality of Australia is reflected in its educational institutions. The faith life, witnessed in migrant families, is a gift and a sign of hope in a highly secularised society.
At Loyola College, where I work as College-Home-Parish Liaison Person, there are students who have grown up in practising Catholic families and students who grew up without any formal faith. The College is committed to supporting each student in their own reality and offers them the opportunity of evangelisation, of deepening our Catholic faith through specific programs as well as the regular Religious Education classes. Hence, through the College’s sacramental program this year, six students received the Rite of Welcoming of Confirmation Candidates on 18 July 2017. These candidates belong mainly to migrant families who are like leavens of faith in the school community.
Last 17 September 2017, one of the candidates was confirmed in the parish where he grew up, St Peter’s Church, Epping. The other five students received the sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, 15 October 2017 at St Mary’s Church, Greensborough, with Rev Fr. Steven Rigo, its parish priest, as the main presider.
Families and students greatly appreciated the supportive presence of the College Principal, Mr Joe Favrin, and Mr Chris Lynch, the Deputy Principal for the Ignatian Mission and Identity.
An elderly woman approached us after the celebration saying how she was deeply touched having witnessed a celebration where young people still commit themselves to their faith in this day and age.
Let us continue to pray for our young people that in the midst of an environment where so many voices beckon their attention, the voice of God calling may be heard, that in God they may find sparks of light and meaning in the realities of loneliness and hopelessness. For as the psalmist says: “in the presence of God, there is fulness of joy.” (Psalm 16:11)

This is evangelisation in a secular context- sharing faith, cultivating a sense of belonging and building community. Thank you for providing us Pastorelle world wide, with such a challenging and enriching experience.

Well done Revy! Sharing our faith, especially with the young, is a call and a privilege. Loyola College has this mission at heart; it is commendable! Keep up the good work!

Godo con voi per tutto il bene che state facendo e lo stilo con cui lo fate. Ho fatto scorrere anche le foto... Il Signore Gesù, Maestro e Pastore, sia sempre e con voi con la sua grazie, la sua luce, la sua forza.
