The North East Deanery in the archdiocese of Adelaide gathered to celebrate another year of shared journey in the pastoral care of God’s people. The event was beautifully organized by its Dean, Fr Allan Winter, who is the parish priest of Our Lady Queen of peace parish, where we, Pastorelle Sisters, have been collaborating in pastoral ministry since 1983.
This year there were three of us Pastorelle present at the celebration; Sr Anna Genovese who is full time pastoral associate alongside Fr Winter, Sr Mary La Bruna who was visiting our community and Sr Rita Ruzzene who was welcomed to Adelaide where she will be part of the Payneham community.
As the guests arrived, true to his qualities as a gracious host, Fr Winter was there to welcome the parish priests, assistant priests, pastoral associates and a deacon of the deanery. It was an enriching experience to mingle with one another, share stories and partake of an exquisite delicious meal. During the evening, Fr Winter took the opportunity of thanking each person for his/her cooperation and service to the people of God within the deanery.
As a new comer to the archdiocese of Adelaide, I was impressed with the noticeable multicultural background of the clergy serving in the deanery: Australian, Filipino, Italian, Polish, Maltese, African and Indian; and the fact that many of the priests are members of Religious Congregations: Capuchins, Jesuits, Dominicans, Marists, SdM and representatives from the Syro Malabar community. The many faces of the pastors is also a reflection of the composition of the Church of Adelaide. The archdiocesan web states: “As one family in faith, the Catholic Church is enriched by the cultural diversity of its members” and “By opening ourselves to the richness of our diversity, we strengthen our praise of God and our gratitude for the many gifts with which we have been blessed as a family”.
As a Deanery, we look forward to continue working together to further God’s Kingdom in the New Year.
Sr Rita Ruzzene, sjbp
