On 15th May 2018, Sr. Sheila Mae Murillo Estremos of Digos, Davao del Sur made her First Religious Profession at the Provincialate Chapel in Quezon City. Sr. Arsenia G. Estrada, SGBP received her vows in the presence of the Novice Mistress, Sr. Cynthia Angalot, SGBP and other sisters with family members, relatives and friends present. The Eucharistic Celebration was presided by Fr. Jesus Gozun of the Society of St. Paul with Msgr. Alfonso A. Bugaoan of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Cubao.
Fr. Jesus congratulated Sr. Sheila for persevering on her journey to the religious life. He said: “As you dedicate your life to Jesus Good Shepherd know that you have the love and support of so many who offer prayers and best wishes to reach this graceful moment”.
It was indeed a blessing to the congregation as on that day, was the 53rd Founding Day in the Philippines. Congratulations to the Sisters of 53 years of Pastoral Presence!
Sr. Sheila’s sharing on her First Religious Profession
“I love the Lord, He is filled with compassion.
He turned to me on the day that I called from the snares of the dark,
O Lord, save my life, be my strength.”
(Psalm 116)
“Lord, you have called me. Here I am.” I cannot imagine myself wearing the blue habit until the moment I approached the altar and read the formula of Religious Profession in the presence of my family, friends, and relatives who witnessed my first religious profession. What a blessing that I was able to make my profession amidst trials and tribulations in life. It was not an easy journey but it was a fruitful, meaningful and joyful encounter with Jesus the Good Shepherd. I was not alone because Jesus is journeying with me in my suffering, loneliness, worries, joy and happiness.
“Remain in Me as I remain in you says the Lord. Whoever remains in Me and I in Him will bear much fruit.” (Jn. 15: 4) To remain in Him is to be with Him; to suffer with Him; to walk with Him; to LOVE Him and to entrust everything in Him. As what Fr. Jess mentioned in his Homily “to remain is to choose how to love, how to remain faithful to your vows choose to love; how to remain in love with your congregation choose to love, how to remain in love with your sisters choose to love”. For God is love and love is God.
I thank the Lord for everything that He has done to me and to my family even though there were times that I want to give up and chose to go home rather than to fight for my vocation. For there were times that I did not understand why He allowed me experience the difficult and painful situations in life. An experience of pruning and letting go that led me to remain in Him, to hold on to Him and to keep on believing in Him that everything has a purpose and that everything will come to its end in God’s time. “For God listens the cry of the poor and will rescue His people.” Indeed, I am so blest because God has loved me and He called me to follow more closely His Son Jesus Christ through the charism of the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd “Pastorelle”.
And I thank all those people who helped me in my journey especially my family and all the Pastorelle Sisters particularly those who prepared me in embracing this kind of life: my formator, my teachers and members of the council. Thank you very much dear Sisters for everything. “GOD is faithful to His promise; just REMAIN in HIM and choose to LOVE”.
