In the celebration of the Year of the Clergy and Consecrated Persons, the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization 5 highlighted on its theme: “Moved with Compassion…Feed the Multitude” wherein more than 8.000 participants composed of bishops, religious men and women with the lay collaborators gathered were significantly renewed in the five day gathering at UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on July 18-22, 2018. The theme was based on the Gospel of Mark 3:30-44 wherein the compassion of Jesus manifested in his command that the disciples feed the multitude intimates the ministerial priesthood and from the Gospel of John 6:1-4 speaks of the generosity of the boy who gave his five loaves of bread and two fish. In both Gospel versions, the crowd stands for the laity gifted with common priesthood. Thus, the feeding of the multitude made them experienced God’s compassion through Jesus, the Face of God’s mercy.
The conference was spearheaded by its Chairman His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle of the Archdiocese of Manila and its Director Rev. Fr. Jason H. Laguerta. The Conference’s goal was achieved with well chosen speakers and sharers that created the roadmap to foster the spirit of communion and synergy among Laity and Consecrated Persons.
Eight Pastorelle sisters were blessed to attend the Conference which served as renewal and refresher venue to live and value more the gift of vocation. The topics spoke of the present situation of the country with its ups and downs. In the spirit of the New Evangelization and as a challenge today, the lay and we the consecrated persons and the clergy are sent to the peripheries to bring the Good News and the Eucharist everywhere especially to those who are away from the Church.
We, the Pastorelle Sisters were greatly honored with the presence of Sr. Lucia Olalia, SJBP of Korea as one of the guest sharers on Day Three in the segment of Heart to Heart with Cardinal Chito. With her companions in the segment, they had shown the cries of humanity in different forms such as experience in the siege in Marawi, auditioning of women to become wives of Koreans, peace negotiator in the inter-religious dialogue, the passion in teaching the poor children of Payatas, the smallness of the diocese in Brunei and overcoming depression. All the sharers made a great impact to the assembly that widened the perspective of looking at one’s situation with much hope and faith in God.
Being then in communion with Jesus means that the lay and the consecrated are aware that Jesus calls and welcomes all especially the poor, the sick and the marginalized. To be in communion with Jesus they are to be present before Jesus and with each other; to bring to Jesus something of themselves: time, talent and treasure.
The conference concluded with so much gratitude to Jesus the Good Shepherd and his beloved Mother Mary and the assembly was motivated by Cardinal Tagle to send this message of PCNE 5 to all: JESUS SENDS US TO BE BREAD BROKEN AND SHARED FOR OTHERS.
