The second Australian Catholic Youth Ministry Convention (ACYMC) was held from 21-23 September 2012 at theCampbelltown Catholic Club in New South Wales.
The Convention is an opportunity for those ministering with young people from across Australia to come together to share ideas and be transformed and inspired for ministry.  More than 450 Catholic youth leaders from dioceses, parishes, schools, universities, movements and religious communities across the country were present.
A group from the Melbourne archdiocese travelled together to participate and enjoy the conference. Among them was our Sr Nelia Llanto, College-Family-Parish Liaison Person at Loyola College, Watsonia, and Youth leader at St Damian’s parish, Bundoora. Three of the “Seekers” Youth leaders from St Damian’s parish, Christian Diez, Arnold Pereira and Bryan Bondesta also attended the Conference.
Among the keynote speakers were Sister Hilda Scott, OSB from the Benedictine Abbey at Jamberoo, best known to most Australians from her role as mentor to a group of young women on the TV series, The Abbey.  Father Christian Fini OM, founder and national coordinator of Oblate Youth Australia and member of the Australian Catholic Youth Council was another of the speakers. Bishop Anthony Fisher, the bishops Delegate for Youth, broke open the convention theme “Rejoice in the Lord always!” (cf Phil 4:4).
And also Mr Shayne Bennet who is Moderator of Emmanuel Community in Brisbane.
A wide range of different workshops also explored Youth Ministry in the School Environment, Ministry with Music, Prayer in the Classroom, Indigenous Spirituality, Social Justice, Connecting with Catholic Agencies, Youth Ministry and the New Evangelisation and Mental First Aid.
The Convention ran over three days and included the nation-wide launch of the first ever Australian Catholic Youth Festival 2013 as well as a celebratory Rio-themed dinner and party to warm us up for World Youth Day in July 2013.
Sr Nelia, Christian, Arnold and Bryan found the convention both enriching and an inspiration for their on going ministry to the youth of our parish and deanery. We pray that seeds sown among the youth will grow and bear fruit for the kingdom!
